I am one of the original founders of WeatherBug and currently serve as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. I developed much of the hardware and firmware of our WeatherBug Tracking Stations as well as our original software for broadcast display and transmission of WeatherBug data over the internet. As the company has grown, i participated a great deal in the architecture of our proprietary back end systems and infrastructure for supporting billions of reqests per day for live weather data and severe weather alerts. I am still very involved in the day to day technology, but am more focused on 3-5 years out. I have been working at WeatherBug since 1992...still love it, still having fun. Previous to WeatherBug, i worked at EAI Corporation in Abingdon, MD where I met our co-founder and President of WeatherBug, Bob Marshall. Bob and I focused on development of solid sorbent technology for measurement of chemical nasties produced by CB weapons and chemical production facilities. I also participated in the Chemical Weapons Convention which was a United Nations directive to ensure countries complied with the global ban on use of chemical weapons. During that time, i had lots of fun travelling to Denver, Colorado to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Our country did some crazy things back in the 50's! I also spent a year at Datcon Instrument Company in East Petersburg, PA where I worked with a fellow graduate of Millersville University on the development of a solid state viscometer system. This solid state viscometer was being researched as a possible solution for the starting system on diesel engines in cold weather. There would be no more use for heating blocks if we had been successful here as our solution would allow the fuel injectors to adjust to the higher viscosity fuels at colder temperatures. Who knows, maybe they have found a solution by now! I am a magna cum laude graduate of the Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Physics and Computer Engineering. Sure it is a small school in Amish country. Yes, I had former Amish people in my classes, but I cannot say enough about the academic program there. By the time I was a senior, I was basically getting one on one instrution from a PhD level teacher. I attended 1 year of graduate school at the University of Maryland College Park where i was pursuing a PhD in Physics. I realy love physics, but I just had to get out of school ad get into the work force. Would love to go back some day as Physics is truly one of the best topics of study around. I have 4 kids that mean the world to me and who give me much pleasure in watching them grow and learn.
